INFORMATION ON INSTALLING THE KS-HATCH RIMS

Då många kajaker börjar läcka efter några år är det ofta luckorna som läcker, eller rättare sagt ringen som luckan sitter på. Kan vara väldigt svårt att se om den läcker då det  blir sug vid vissa tempraturer.Men har det släppt ordenligt märks det tydligt. Extra viktigt om man vill slippa byta är att inte trycka hårt mot skrovet när man sätter på luckorna. Med de nya sortens luckor slipper man oftast detta problem då de är lättare att sätta på. Tidigare användes popnitar förutom lim och de är ett problem då de inte fördelar påfrestningar jämt och då kan limmet släppa efter några år.(sätt inte dit några)  Kollade upp med kajaksport vilka lim de använder se nedan.

We use here:

Sika Primer 215 or 290DC and Sikaflex 221

Anyway it’s important to use primer with the ABS rim because it improves the bonding of Sikaflex.

Please find attached the instructions for gluing KS-hatch rims.

SOME INFORMATION ON INSTALLING THE KS-HATCH RIMS

1. The KS-rims are made of ABS-plastic. Using Sika Primer (e.g. 215 or 290DC)

with ABS material is highly recommended to assure perfect bonding with

Sika polyurethane adhesive/sealant. Apply primer to a clean ABS rim, wipe

once to the glueable surface of the rim. Let the primer dry 30 min.

2. Use polyurethane adhesive/sealant, e.g. Sikaflex-221 for gluing. Spread the

glue to the glueable surface of the kayak deck. Press the rim to its place and

let dry. To streghten the joint between the deck and the rim, you can use

rivets (particularly with bigger hatches). These will help the rim to stay in

place. Be careful with the rivets in order to prevent the rim from breaking!

Make sure the rim is not budged during the drying.

If you use another sealant, please check the manufacturers instructions.

If you install the rim to a PE-kayak, flame the surface of the kayak from the

gluing area carefully with a torch to make sure of a better binding of the sealant.

It’s not recommended to flame the hatch rim at all, cause it may weaken the

structure of ABS material.
